Business Administration A major in business administration provides
students with concepts and skills useful for decision-making in
organizations. The curriculum covers functional areas of business such as
marketing, management theories and practices, and basic financial analysis.
Students also develop mathematical and computer skills useful to
decision-making, and communication skills essential in any interpersonal
situation. Otterbein's business administration program stresses the overall
development of the individual, offering sufficient background for able
students to pursue careers in business, management, government, graduate
school, or law school. Our approach is toward analytical problem-solving and
business-related case studies. Students may choose to combine this major with
a second major or a minor, such as accounting or economics. |

Otterbein offers a four-year degree in business administration,
requiring 180 quarter hours for graduation. Course offerings are designed to
include a broad foundation (liberal arts), knowledge and experience from the major,
and a number of electives. The major in business administration offers four
concentrations which provide some degree of specialization. They are:
finance, international business, management, and marketing. If a student
wishes to acquire a concentration, then four courses related to the
concentration must be selected. |

|
Normally, a student schedules at least 15 quarter hours (three
or four courses) during each of the three 10-week quarters every year. Approximately
40 percent of the academic work is in courses in the major field. About 30
percent of the academic work is selected from Otterbein's liberal arts core
courses (the Integrative Studies program) designed to increase your
understanding of society and yourself. The remaining 30 percent are electives
-- courses which you may choose on the basis of your interests and career
goals. |

The major in business administration consists of 12 or 13
required courses and four additional business administration elective courses
or a concentration emphasizing a functional area of business administration.
A student may choose one of several majors in Business Administration --
finance, management, or marketing. |

An excellent way to prepare for a career is to supplement your
education with on-the-job experience. At Otterbein, we offer a program that can
help you do just that. With an internship, you'll get ten weeks of experience
in a business-related industry, learning to apply your knowledge to the work
that needs to be done. We'll help you find a position that suits your needs. |

Otterbein business administration faculty work closely with
their industry counterparts to plan for and supervise quality work-based
learning experiences for the internship participants. Many of the internships
are with "excellent" companies located close to campus. Some of our
graduates got started on their careers through positions they held as
interns. Others find that just having experience makes them more confident in
their job search and interviews. National and international opportunities for
internships are available. |
