Tuesday, January 30, 5-6:30 p.m., Roush 114 - Dr. John Corvino, philosopher, moralist, gay-rights advocate, will speak about "Homosexuality and Morality".

Is homosexuality unnatural? Is it harmful to society? Is it biologically determined, and does that matter? In his provocative lectures and debates, John Corvino confronts these questions and more. Combining philosophical rigor with sensitivity and humor, Corvino challenges people on all sides of the debate to rethink assumptions about both homosexuality and morality.

April 18 - National Day of Silence

Founded in 1996, the Day of Silence® has become the largest single student-led action towards creating safer schools for all, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. From the first-ever Day of Silence® at the University of Virginia in 1996, to the organizing efforts in over 1,900 middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities across the country in 2002, its textured history reflects its diversity in both numbers and reach. September 2007 - Safezone Program Launch

SafeZone is a program that creates and identifies "safe" spaces for GLBTQ persons on campus. In a "safe zone," support, respect, understanding, and acceptance are readily available. Members earn and display a SafeZone sticker to affirm their ally status. Elements of the program include:

  • designated safe spaces
  • ally training
  • resource manual
  • safezone stickers
