Maria S. Calderone, DVM, is a graduateBruce Mandeville
of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She joined the faculty at Otterbein after spending time in an exclusively equine ambulatory practice. Her courses focus on equine medical, surgical and health-related issues, for Equine Preveterinary Medicine/Pregraduate students and Equine Veterinary Health Technology students. She also advises them on related internship and career opportunities in the equine industry.

In order to stay current with new developments in equine diagnostics, surgery, medicine, and therapeutics, she has had sabbatical opportunities at San Luis Rey Equine Hospital, Bonsall, California; The Animal Health Trust, Newmarket, England; The Equine Fertility Unit, Newmarket, England; The Ohio State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Columbus, Ohio; and Woodland Run Equine Hospital, Grove City, Ohio.

In past years she has chaired the Equine Program of the Midwest Veterinary Conference and attends the American Association of Equine Practitioners' Convention whenever possible. She's a member of AAEP, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association, and the 5th District Equine Practitioners Group in central Ohio.

She shares a small farm in Galena, Ohio with husband Simon Lawrance, MSc, PhD, a molecular biologist also at Otterbein, and a menagerie of horses, dogs, cats, and wildlife.
