About Us![]() Dr. Thomas Ahrens ![]() Jeanne Talley ![]() Semira Ibrahim ![]() Theresa Barbour The Gateway Program at Otterbein College was created in 2004. It ran as a pilot project for two years, and is now (in its third year) a regular program. The program seeks to build on Otterbein's continued commitment to provide college access for diverse student populations. The particular focus of Gateway is on under-served members of our community, in particular recent immigrants to the U.S. During 2005-06 and 2006-07 Gateway has received generous funding through a grant from the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC) to help us recruit more New Americans to attend Otterbein. Dr. Thomas Ahrens is the Gateway director. He also teaches English and serves as academic advisor and mentor. Dr. Ahrens works closely with an administrative team that consists of members from the offices of Financial Aid, Student Affairs, and the the Registrar. In addition, we have two OFIC funded Student Ambassadors - Semira Ibrahim and Theresa Barbour - who help us with all activities related to our recruitment effort.
