NEWS - Construction Nearing Completion on the Center for Equine Studies

The $5.2 million facility which will be the first of its kind, combining horses, stables, pastures and education in a suburban setting at 600 N. Spring Road. The Center is slated for completion in Spring 2009.

The new facility will allow the Equine Science program to expand its program offerings and to admit more students. Fifty-two stalls, as opposed to the current 25 stalls, will allow the enrollment to double from 75 to 150 students over the next 10 years. It will replace the buildings and pastures leased for the past 25 years about five miles north of Westerville.

The plans for the new state-of-the-art facility also call for improved indoor and outdoor riding arenas, as well as pastures, classrooms, a riding trail and housing for a full-time stable manager.

The Board of Trustees has authorized the construction of a new academic equine science facility on the former Kilgore property, 111 acres owned by the College on Spring Road in Westerville. The facility will be approximately 2 miles from campus. Construction for the nearly $4.92 million project, to be funded totally through private contributions, is intended to replace the buildings and pastures leased for many years in Galena, five miles north of Westerville.

Features of the new Equine Center include:

• A primary structure that will contain classrooms
• Outdoor arena for special events
• 50 horse stalls
• An unpaved perimeter riding trail
• Several outdoor pastures

The expanded facility will allow for an anticipated doubling of enrollment over the next ten years, and offer students the best possible education in this growing field.
