THE JOHN H. BECKER '50 MEMORIAL ENDOWED LIBRARY BOOK FUND
Gifts from his wife Marian Havens Becker '50 and his friends and colleagues, honored John H. Becker by creating this fund to help with the purchase of books by the College Librarian for the collection.
ROBERT F. BERKEY '52 ENDOWED LECTURESHIP
Dr. Clarence T. Gilham, an Otterbein friend, honored his friend and Otterbein alumnus Dr. Robert F. Berkey '52 by creating this endowed fund in 2003. Each year, the Academic Dean and Religion Department chair will assess the lectureship needs of the College; this fund will help with expenses incurred.
VIOLET L. BIELSTEIN DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION ENHANCEMENT FUND
Violet Bielstein was the proud parent of Constance Bielstein Bonnell '61. She taught for many years in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania. Her commitment to education and admiration for Otterbein was the driving force for this endowed fund which was created in 2004 through an estate gift. Her legacy will be used to provide discretionary funding for the Department of English in order to enhance the educational opportunities for Otterbein students.
THE CHILDERS FAMILY AWARD FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDY
This fund was created by Victor Childers and Jean Childers Arnold '90. Dr. Childers, a retired professor of international business at Indiana University, has lived and traveled throughout the world in connection with a variety of interests and assignments. As a youngster, Jean accompanied her parents on several overseas assignments and she was a student on the fall 1986 Semester at Sea voyage. The family's passion for other cultures and the enrichment and opportunities derived from first-hand knowledge of these cultures inspired them to create the award. Currently, Jean supports others' enrichment by working to empower women during pregnancy through yoga instruction and child birth education.
CLASS OF 1950 MILLENNIUM LIBRARY ENDOWMENT
In honor of their Golden Reunion, the Class of 1950 created this fund to help support the general liberal arts curriculum of the College as determined and selected by the Library Director.
THE PROFESSOR MERRISS '33 AND CAROL CORNELL ENODWED SPECIAL PROJECT FOR THE ARCHIVES
This fund was created with a gift from Mrs. Merriss (Carol) Cornell to establish a means of providing assistance for the project of researching the Lucinda Lenore Merriss Cornell Diaries. Professor Cornell is the grandson and namesake of Lucinda, and great-grandson of Angeline Bishop Cornell who was one of the first women at Otterbein.
THE MERRISS '33 AND CAROL CORNELL ENDOWED RESEARCH FUND FOR THE STUDY OF WOMEN IN SOCIETY
This gift was created by Mrs. Merriss (Carol) Cornell to promote research focused on the gift of The Lucinda Lenore Merriss Cornell Diaries and related material, donated to Otterbein in memory of Carol Cornell's husband, Merriss. Professor Cornell is the grandson and namesake of Lucinda, and great-grandson of Angeline Bishop Cornell who was one of the first women at Otterbein.
THE JOHN W. CURL AND FLORENCE D. CURL ENDOWMENT FUND
This fund was established in 2005 with a bequest from Mrs. Curl for the nursing department. Mrs. Curl had a friend that attended Otterbein College and graduated with a degree in nursing.
THE CHARLOTTE MINERD DUNHAM '54 CHORAL TOUR ENDOWMENT FUND
Dr. Robert E. Dunham '53 created this fund in honor of his late wife. Funding shall be used to provide financial assistance for student(s) wishing to participate in the international choral touring experience. Charlotte's love of music and her belief in the importance of providing international tour experiences for musical performing groups inspired Dr. Dunham to create a fund that would help Otterbein students pursue their musical interests.
THE MARGUERITE WETHERILL ESCHBACH MEMORIAL ENDOWED STUDENT ART FUND
Created in 1999 by Joseph Wetherill Eschbach '55 and Mary Ann Charles Eschbach '56 in memory of Joseph's mother, a member of the class of 1924. It was designed to encourage art students early in their careers, reccognize talented art students and their work by use of a juried selection process, and to provide a highly visible art lecture for the College.
THE WILLIAM L. EVANS INFORMATIONAL TECHNOLOGY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUND
Created by Sonya Stauffer Evans '56 in honor of her husband, William L. Evans '56, this fund provides financial assistance to help Otterbein faculty, staff and students maintain current practice standards in the field of information technology.
THE LILLIAN AND PAUL FRANK ENDOWED FUND FOR THE ARTIST SERIES SIGNATURE PERFORMANCE
This fund was created in 1997 by Lillian Frank to promote appreciation of the perofrming arts and to support the Otterbein Artist Series, which Dr. Paul Frank chaired during his time as a music professor at Otterbein.
THE NANCY FRIEDT FUND FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDY
This endowed award was established in 2008 by Nancy Friedt, Class of 1966. This Fund will be used to provide one-time funding and/or financial assistance to a regularly enrolled, full-time Otterbein Student pursuing an educational opportunity with a study abroad program of international learning opportunity approved by the College. The Fund will be presented to a student who is a Foreign Languages major or minor with first preference to students studying French.
THE BERT AND JANE HORN ENDOWED STUDENT RESEARCH FUND IN THE SCIENCES
Believing that science is a field best learned when students actually perform research in the areas they are studying, Jane Horn '49 established this fund in memory of our great friend Albert "Bert" Horn '49. Funding will help with expenses incurred by students seeking to fulfill research projects required for academic credit in biochemistry, chemistry, environmental science, life science or molecular biology.
THE JOHN G. AND WINIFRED R. HOYT ENDOWED STUDENT LOAN FUND
College friend John G. Hoyt established this fund to assist Otterbein students in securing loans and financial assistance for college-related expenses.
THE KNIGHT FAMILY FUND FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDY
Created with a bequest from John Robert Knight '28, this endowed fund provides financial assistance for students pursuing an educational opportunity with a study abroad program or international learning opportunity approved by the College.
PROFESSOR GILBERT E. MILLS MEMORIAL ENDOWED FACULTY SABBATICAL PROGRAM
Roger E. Mills helped to create this endowment in 2002 in honor of his uncle, Gilbert E. Mills, who served Otterbein College from 1920 to 1963 in the Foreign Language Department. Funds from this endowment will be used to assist with faculty sabbatical program expenses.
THE VERNON L. PACK FELLOWSHIP
With a gift in 2005 from Vernon L. Pack '50, this fund was created in order to help provide funding to students who are engaged in a public service program or project and are working in collaboration with the mission of the Center for Community Engagement (CCE) at Otterbein College. Students are selected each year by committee through an application process. The fund may provide a stipend or support to meet project expenses.
THE VERNON L. PACK SCHOLAR IN RESIDENCE AND DISTINGUISHED LECTURER SERIES
Vernon L. Pack, Class of 1950, created an opportunity for the Otterbein community to engage with a renowned figure who shares his/her insight into the current issues of our world to help us to reflect as a community about spiritual, ethical and social issues that our world.
THE MARIAN SNAVELY ENDOWED FACULTY RESEARCH FUND
Marian A. Snavely '26 left a bequest to endow this fund in honor of Dr. Charles Snavely. These funds will be used by History or Political Science faculty to engage in research that will help improve the quality of undergraduate instruction. Dr. Snavely was a member of the Otterbein College History faculty, and received in 1934 the honorary degree of LLC.
THE TATSUO TSUDA JAPANESE EDUCATION FUND
Tatsuo Tsuda '55 created this fund in 2005 to help provide financial support for Otterbein undergraduate students wishing to study an aspect of Japanese life or culture in Japan. Students may apply funds to their travel expenses, tuition or Japanese educational materials that help to fulfill program requirements.
THE THOMAS ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE SERIES
Created with a generous gift from Mary B. Thomas '28, this fund supports the Common Book Experience. This program is meant to stimulate campus discussion of a significant contemporary work of literature and to enhance our sense of intellectual community.
THE VENTRESCA FAMILY FUND
Established in 2005 by Carol Ventresca '76, this program fund is intended to provide sociology majors (of Junior or Senior standing) with supplemental funding for the pursuit of research, internship or cooperative opportunity in the field.
THE WESTERVILLE OTTERBEIN WOMEN'S CLUB DIAMOND JUBILEE GRANT
Created in 1997, this fund provides financial assistance to a student or students who experience a financial emergency.
DONALD L. AND CAROLINE A. WILLIAMS DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH ENHANCEMENT FUND
Donald L. '41 and Caroline Brentlinger Williams '51 both graduated with their BA's in English from Otterbein, and were proud participants in and supporters of the Quiz and Quill program. While Caroline pursued her Masters of Arts degree, Don received his Masters in Divinity degree. Their bequest provided funding for the Quiz and Quill program (endowment), and to create this fund. This fund assists the English Department to provide opportunities to students to improve their skills and enhance their writing abilities.
THE ROBERT E. WOODRUFF ENDOWED STUDENT TEACHER ENRICHMENT FUND
Robert E. Woodruff '67 has created this fund to provide financial support for students wishing to pursue a student teaching experience. Mr. Woodruff, a teacher retired from the Westerville Public School System, continues to devote a lot of his time to education and educational excellence.
THE KRISTINE YOHN WELLNESS PROGRAM ENDOWMENT
Established in loving memory by her parents, David S. '51 and Olivetta McCoy Yohn '51, this fund creates financial support for a wellness program for students covering areas such as depression, eating disorders, stress, anxiety, alcohol and/or substance abuse, and suicide prevention.
