Week #1 (June 11-14, 2007)
Construction on McFadden Hall began on Monday, June 11, 2007. Leading up to this day, the science faculty and staff worked feverishly to vacate all of the rooms in McFadden, including the offices, laboratories, classrooms and the greenhouse. The materials in each room were moved to swing space at 60 Collegeview on the West campus.
During the first week of construction, the crew leveled the ground outside of McFadden Hall and put a temporary thick layer of gravel to accommodate the heavy equipment and demolition dumpsters. Precautions have been taken to protect the exterior of the building.
On the morning of June 15th, the demolition crew knocked out the first windows of McFadden Hall. McFadden Hall used to have large glass windows prior to the construction of Schear Hall. When Schear Hall was built the windows in McFadden were filled in with brick and small portal windows. This was done to conserve energy and also to match the look of the new building. The demolition crew is chiseling away at the bricks in McFadden to restore the original window design.
