K-12 Intervention Specialist Program
The Master of Arts is for licensed teachers (current or expired) who are seeking to earn a master's degree and add licensure in special education. Teachers seeking a master's degree and licensure as an intervention specialist complete a full program which includes core coursework, specialization classes in special education, and a research capstone.
Candidates may choose to take the coursework for adding this licensure without obtaining the MAE through our non-degree licensure program.. Core coursework is not as extensive in this option and the research capstone is not required.
The program is designed to be part-time with classes offered at convenient times and some online coursework. For students who have the necessary prerequisites and begin in the summer, the program can be completed by the end of the following summer. If you choose to obtain your MAE, you will need additional time for your capstone research. If your original licensure area is in AYA or Multi-Age, you may need 3-4 additional reading courses.
The Intervention Specialist license can be earned in two areas; mild/moderate or moderate/intensive. Students can choose one or both licensure areas.
