Graduate School Course Audit Application/Registration Form

This form is to be used only by Graduate applicants applying and registering to audit class(es) for non credit. A transcript (unofficial sufficient) or diploma copy showing receipt of your Bachelor degree must accompany this form. Any student wishing to change to a degree-seeking or non-degree status must reapply to the specific program of interest and follow all admission requirements of that program

Directions:
  1. Any student interested in auditing a graduate class must complete the combined application/registration form only.
  2. The applicant must submit proof that they have obtained a Bachelor's degree. An unofficial transcript, official transcript, or diploma copy will suffice.
  3. Any student seeking to audit a class is responsible for obtaining instructor permission prior to submitting the form to the Graduate School.
The instructor’s signature is required, permitting the student to take the class. The instructor has the discretion to decline the request.
The student also must sign the form, confirming that they are responsible for the tuition fees associated with each course.
  4. The student must submit the completed form along with their proof of Bachelor’s degree to the Graduate School for processing.

All requests to audit courses are subject to final approval by the Registrar. Confirmation or declination will be sent shortly after the registration is processed. Among courses that may not be audited are those that consume laboratory, computer or other additional program resources and those in high demand by credit-seeking students. Demand fluctuates which means that at some point in time any course has the potential of not being available for audit.

Audit expectations are determined by the instructor and thus may vary from course to course. It is the student’s responsibility to discuss expectations with the instructor prior to the start of the class or no later than the first class meeting; the instructor has the discretion to deny an audit request. The student must submit the form to the Registrar once the student has obtained the instructor's signature permitting the student to audit the class. Changes from audit to credit or credit to audit must be made during the published add/drop period. Audits are graded on a satisfactory/unsatisfactory basis and appear on the transcript record with a grade of S or U. An audit may not be substituted for a required class; the required class must be taken for credit.
