Degree: Bachelor of Arts in Health Promotion and Fitness.
What she's doing now: Immediately following my departure from Otterbein, I began work with The Fitness Edge in Dublin, Ohio where I am currently employed as a sports and personal trainer.
After Graduation: Since graduation I have attained credentials from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist), the American College of Sports Medicine (Health Fitness Specialist), and the Cooper Institute (Health Promotion Director).
Her Otterbein experience: I was an undecided major as I entered into my college career, but after trying my hand in a variety of fields I settled upon Health Promotion and Fitness the summer before my junior year.
As an upperclassman, I anticipated a difficult transition into Health and Sport Sciences, but with the support and encouragement of the staff within the department I found it easy to excel both pre- and post-graduation.
While in school I was held accountable for achieving my highest potential as a student, in the classroom and out. I was challenged to seek learning endeavors that often led me beyond the refuge of our campus walls, teaching me to facilitate my own education through practical learning experiences.
In attending a smaller institution, one can easily feel as if he is "missing out" - both socially and academically. Opportunities may seem less apparent, and resources more limited. I can assure you; however, this was not the case at Otterbein.
Had it not been for the connections I made during my time in the Health and Sport Sciences Department, I could not have attained a coveted internship position at the esteemed Cooper Institute, nor would I be employed with the former Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Columbus Crew.
I am forever grateful for the time I spent at Otterbein; the relationships I made, the opportunities I was granted, and the help I continue to receive from those dedicated faculty and staff who have been such a huge contribution to my success today.
