Admission Requirements for Physical Education Majors

Students admitted to Otterbein College are eligible to become a Physical Education Major automatically if they so desire. Within the Physical Education major, students may choose to pursue an individualized program or seek Multi-age (preK-12) license to teach in the public schools.

Students choosing to seek teacher licensure must also meet the Education Department Teacher Education Program requirements:

  1. Minimum Math and English scores: ACT of 20 or SAT of 500 or PRAXIS I of 172 *
  2. Maintain a 2.5 Otterbein and major GPA *
  3. Earn "C" or better grades in all major and Education required courses *
  4. Complete fingerprint and annual background checks prior to any field experience courses
  5. Receive positive Department and Field Experience recommendations
  6. Submit an application and recommendation form to the Teacher Education Program the quarter following the completion of EDUC 200: Educational Psychology (Sophomore/Junior year).

*Failure to meet or maintain these requirements results in non-admission or dismissal from the Teacher Education Program.

Transfer students wishing to pursue teacher licensure must first contact the transfer counselor in the Admissions Office for specific information related to this process.

Students seeking teacher licensure are encouraged to double major (e.g. Physical Education and Health Education) to increase their employment options. (Please note a double major may take more than 4 years to complete.)

Students not seeking teacher licensure work with their academic advisers to individualize their program to best fit their respective career interests while meeting graduation requirements (minimum 2.0 Otterbein GPA required).
