Senior Physical Education Award
Awarded to the outstanding physical education major with senior status.
2009 recipient - Kate Weale

The Marilyn E. Day Endowed Award
Awarded annually to a full-time student majoring in the department for excellence in scholarship, leadership and service.
2009 recipient - Laura Greene & Andrea Johnson

Elmer W. "Bud" Yoest '53 Endowed Award
This award is presented to student(s) demonstrating an exceptional commitment to campus leadership and citizenship and preparing for a career in the areas of concentration requiring the Health and Physical Education certificate.
2009 recipient - Jocelyn Hennon

Harold C. Martin '33 Endowed Award
This award is presented to a student whose major field is physical education and who is planning to teach and coach.
2009 recipient - Chelsea Mathias

Departmental Scholarships

Awarded annually to a student currently enrolled at college and majoring in the HSS department. The selection criteria for this award includes: Significant contributions to the department, professional involvement, cumulative grade point average, and personal achievements related to the student's chosen field of study. Open to full-time returning freshman, sophomores, and juniors.

Application Process:

Scholarships are awarded to students in the Department of Health and Sport Sciences including: Allied Health, Athletic Training, Physical Education, Health Education, Sport Management, and Health Promotion and Fitness. You must meet the criteria set forth by the scholarship donors (see above descriptions) to apply. As long as criteria are met you may apply for more than one scholarship.
  1. Obtain an application from the Department of Health and Sport Sciences in the Rike Center office beginning TBA 2010.
  2. Complete the application, which includes an essay component and a letter of recommendation.
  3. All materials (essay, recommendation and application) are due back in one envelope (no exceptions) and must be delivered to the Department of Health and Sport Sciences office in the Rike Center by TBA, 2009 no later than 4:30 p.m. Late materials will not be considered.
  4. Scholarship recipients will be notified in prior to the academic convocation in June.
