Sport Management Major

The Sport Management major prepares students for successful careers in many areas of the sport industry, including, but not limited to, school and community athletic administration; administration of professional sports teams; sports agencies; sports information and media; sport promotion and marketing; sport sales; and facility management.

Otterbein provides students with a strong liberal arts education and extensive training in the field of sport management. In addition to the sport management specific courses, the sport management major requires foundational courses from accounting, business administration, economics, communication, math and computer science. An interdisciplinary knowledge base with the practical application of that knowledge through field experiences, internships, classroom activities, and case studies are emphasized. Required in this major is an internship in an approved setting supervised by a specialist in the field.

Recommended minors for Sport Management majors are Business Administration (Marketing, Management or Finance), Accounting, Public Relations, Broadcasting, Coaching, Journalism, Physical Education, Legal Studies, Psychology, or Speech Communication.
