<< Back to Sport Management Major
Sport Management is an interdisciplinary field of study which emphasizes a broad understanding of both sport and business. The goal of the Sport Management minor is to encourage the development of this interdisciplinary knowledge base and provide the students with the practical skills necessary for successful careers in management, promotion, administration, marketing, organizing and leading a sport business or organization.
The Sport Management minor consists of 34 hours of coursework and includes a variety of courses from the existing physical education and business administration curriculums. A 10-15 credit hour internship is highly recommended but not required. (This option is not part of the 34 hours of coursework.) The coursework allows for skill and knowledge development so students will be prepared for possible employment with professional sports teams, colleges and universities, corporations, public and private fitness and country clubs, community recreations centers, and commercial sport establishments. This minor enables students preparing for business administration, public relations, journalism, or any other related career, to integrate a sport focus with their major field of study.
