Known
Issues and Problems with the Blackboard System
The following are known problems with the Blackboard
system:
Problem: Mac users are having difficulty
using the Virtual Classroom, Chat and Electronic Blackboard
tools.
Solution or Work-Around: Blackboard,
despite its best efforts, has a few areas that are
not very Mac friendly. The collaboration tools mentioned
above do not work with the plain vanilla Safari and
Internet Explorer instalations.
Problem: Even though the "Send
copy to me" option is selected when sending e-mail,
no copy is received.
Solution or Work-Around: None. Blackboard,
Inc. has not provided a patch for this problem.
Problem: Recipients aren't receiving
e-mail when sent through Blackboard.
Solution or Work-Around: In order
for the Blackboard e-mail system to work, the sender
and recipient must use their Otterbein e-mail addresses.
If any members of the class use an e-mail address other
that USERNAME@otterbein.edu, there is a very good chance
the e-mail will not be delivered.
Problem: Can't remove another instructor
from the class.
Solution or Work-Around: Only system
administrators can remove instructors. If you need
an instructor removed, please contact the system
administrator.
Problem: Uploaded files can't be
downloaded.
Solution or Work-Around: Make sure
your file names only contain letters, numbers, spaces,
dashes and underscores. Also, make sure the file names
contain a file extension (e.g., .doc for MS Word files).
Problem: Student says she uploaded
a file to the digital drop box, but I cannot see it.
Solution or Work-Around: If two students
upload files with exactly the same name, the most recently
uploaded file will overwrite the older file. There
is no way to recover the older file. Require that your
students append their names to their uploaded files
(e.g., Final Project - Jennifer Smith.doc).
AN even better solution is to stop using the Digital
Dropbox and use the Assignment Manager instead.
