Home Folders
Every member of the Otterbein community (faculty, staff and students) is provided with a networked folder for storing files. This folder, known as the "Home folder," is a place where all important files should be stored. The advantages of placing your files in the Home folder include:
- Storing very large files
- Can be accessed from any computer connected to the Internet
- Files are backed up every night
Your Home folder is password-protected (you use the same User Name and password that you use to connect to the Otterbein network and e-mail systems).
If you log on to the network while on-campus, your home folder is your Z drive. (Students logging in from the residence halls and the wireless network do not have this connection.)
To connect to your Home folder, open your web browser and type in the following address:
ftp://USERNAME@ochome.otterbein.edu/faculty/USERNAME
Students should type:
ftp://USERNAME@ochome.otterbein.edu/students/USERNAME
The USERNAME is the beginning part of your e-mail address (the part before the @otterbein.edu).
After you connect to the home folder you will be prompted for your network userID and password.
You can also log in to the Otternet page and look for the link to your Home folder.

Floppies
Don't get yourself into trouble by using unreliable
floppy diskettes! Here's how to store your files so that you can use them on just
about any computer. Given the great benefit of storing files in your Home folder, there's no reason to use anything else!
