Web Folders
Every member of the Otterbein community (faculty, staff and students) is provided with a folder on the Otterbein web server. This server space can be used any way you like, with the following exceptions:
- The web content cannot be used for commercial activity. You may have web pages in your Otterbein web folder that mention and link to other web sites. For example, if you have a consulting business, you can mention the name of your business and have a link to that business' external web site. You may not, however, use your Otterbein web space to explicitly promote, advertise or support your business. If you need to host a web site for commercial purposes, please use a commercial web hosting service.
- The web pages may not contain any copyrighted material unless you have prior written permission from the copyright owner.
- The web pages may not contain and information proprietary or sensitive to Otterbein University.
- The web pages must adhere to all federal, state and local laws.
- The web site must adhere to Otterbein's Responsible Use Policy.
Like your Home folder, your Web folder is password-protected (you use the same User Name and password that you use to connect to the Otterbein network and e-mail systems).
Connecting to Your Web Folder
If you're on campus, you can connect directly to your web folder. Faculty and staff should type the following address into Windows Explorer:
\\occardinal\home\fac\USERNAME\
Students should type in:
\\occardinal\home\std\USERNAME\ (for students)
To connect to your Web folder from anywhere in the world, open your web browser and type in the following address:
ftp://USERNAME@faculty.otterbein.edu/USERNAME
Students should type:
ftp://USERNAME@www.otterbein.edu/home/st/USERNAME
The USERNAME is the beginning part of your e-mail address (the part before the @otterbein.edu).
After you connect to the Web folder you will be prompted for your network userID and password.
You can also log in to the Otternet page and look for the link to your Web folder.
