New StudentsInformation for New Students and New Faculty and Staff

Understanding and making full and effective use of an institution's information technology resources can be a confusing and overwhelming experience for newcomers. These pages are designed to make your computing experience at Otterbein enjoyable, productive and risk-free.

If at any time you have questions, don't hesitate to contact the following Help Desks: Students may contact the Student Help Desk located in the Campus Center or at 823-1060. For account problems, students may contact the Student Computing Manager directly at the same location or via phone 823-1885 or traleigh@otterbein.edu. Faculty and Staff may contact the Faculty/Staff helpline at 823-1747 or email helpdesk@otterbein.edu.

Asking the Right Questions. Before going into specifics relating to Otterbein, you should review the Student Guide to Evaluating Information Technology on Campus from Educause. This brochure provides new students with thoughtful questions about technology resources.

One last document to review is Otterbein's Responsible Use Policy. This document outlines what computer practices are permitted and which ones are prohibited.

Information Specifically for Faculty and Staff:

Training

You will be provided your Otterbein ID and Banner pin from Human Resources. Use these to activate your account and logon to Banner directly. See "What to Do First", "Other On-line Resources" and "Training" below. Also visit specific Faculty/Staff Orientation webpages. See Forms and Resources for Banner training and more, Human Resources, and your Employees and Faculty tabs in your O-Zone account for announcements, information and personalized resources.

What to Do First:

Activate your account

Activate your network account. You should do this before you do anything else. You can even do this before you arrive on campus to purchase your identification card and parking decal.

IDs and Passwords

Know Your User Name and Password. You have one user name and one unique password that you created upon activation of your account. You also have a unique ID number and pin for Self-Service Banner.

My O-Zone
O-Zone is your personal, customizable portal to Otterbein's Intranet. Logon to your O-Zone page to access links to all other resources and no need to logon separately. It is single sign-on! See all your personal information and keep current on Otterbein news. Note: If O-Zone is ever down for maintenance you may access the very same resources by navigating via www.otterbein.edu and using the A-Z index to go to each system such as Banner, webmail, etc...directly. Contact the help desk if you cannot access O-Zone.
e-Mail
Using Otterbein e-mail. Everyone in the Otterbein community is issued an email account. Your Otterbein email is the only email address the college uses for official communications. Learn how to read your Otterbein e-mail with your web browser. Configure your e-mail program so that it can receive your Otterbein e-mail.

 

Other On-line Resources:

Self Service Banner

Self Service Banner replaces Cardinal Web as the new information and data services system for Otterbein. Students and employees can handle all business and learning services on-line. For students: (e.g. Register for classes, do a degree audit, pay bills, check grades...) For Faculty: (e.g. Grade submission, Faculty Overrides, Degree Evaluations (aka Degree Audit), View Any Class List...)

Logon with your ID number and unique 6 number pin. (e.g. ID: A12345678, pin: 123456) or simply logon through the quick link on your O-Zone after single sign-on!

Blackboard
Blackboard is an on-line learning tool for coursework. Click here to see known issues and access a student user guide.
Moodle is another on-line learning tool for coursework. Your instructor will let you know if you will be using Moodle for class.
Otternet
Online Storage. How to use your Home folder and Web folder to your advantage. Want a quick way to access your folders, see your class schedule with pictures of your classmates? Check out your Otternet page!
