Kevin Svitana, Ph. D.
Assistant Professor
Life and Earth Science Department
Chairperson
Environmental Studies
Education:
Ph.D. The Ohio State University
M.S. West Virginia University
B.S. Juniata College
Courses Taught:
I teach geology and GIS classes in both the Earth Sciences and Environmental Studies curriculum. Classes include Environmental Geology, Earth Science and Humankind, Land Use Planning (GIS), Introduction to Environmental Studies, Advanced Environmental Studies, and Field Studies. I apply my 20 plus years of professional work as an environmental scientist to the classes to bring an applied perspective to the complexities typical to environmental issues.
Research:
As a hydrogeologist, my main research interest is the assessment and remediation of groundwater and surface water resources. I am also interested in the geochemistry of soils and have conducted investigations to quantify trace elements in soils so the trace elements can serve as a finger print representing the source of sediments generated from soil erosion. I also am an Ohio Voluntary Action Program (VAP) certified Professional (CP), and have worked extensively with remediation and redevelopment of Brownfield properties.
