Molecular biology is one of the most exciting and rapidly advancing areas of biology. Today, molecular biologists are actively involved in solving a variety of problems - from the human genome project and the treatment of genetic disease to forensic analysis and the study of DNA of endangered animals and extinct species. Molecular biology has also spawned the biotechnology industry through which new pharmaceuticals and many other exciting products are being generated. The field promises a bright and rewarding future.
Our Molecular Biology Program prepares you with the classroom, laboratory, and research experiences needed for success in this dynamic field. Our program is carried out in the context of the liberal arts and in close association with practicing scientists. The American Association for the Advancement of Science believes that this is the best way for students to enter the science profession.
Faculty in both the Life Science and Chemistry Departments are active in molecular biology and cooperate closely in research, teaching, and publication in the field.
