Opportunities to excel in molecular biology abound at Otterbein. In addition to research projects which are part of classes, there are also opportunites for in-depth research projects conducted with one of Otterbein's faculty. Recent students projects have included studies of the molecular genetics of psoriasis, the function of histocompatibility genes in the immune system, and the equine genome project. These projects have been published and presented at the Ohio Academy of Science annual meeting.
Internship opportunities at local institutions such as Battelle Memorial Institute and Ross Labs provide introductions to the world of biotechnology. Invited guest speakers from across the nation provide students with up to the minute information about the progress of molecular biology as well as information about graduate programs.
