Athletic Bands Participation Award
What is it?
The Athletic Bands Participation Award is designed to assist students who elect to commit to perform with Otterbein Athletic Bands. Award recipients receive $1,000 per year/$4,000 over four years.
Who is eligible?
Any incoming Otterbein student who performs on a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument as well as visual performers, including color guard and twirlers. You do not have to be a music major; our members represent almost every major and field of study on campus.
What do I have to do?
First, read the information on joining the band. Be sure to complete the online student interest profile form so we can send further information. More information about how to join the band.
Next, all students must audition to be eligible for the Athletic Bands Participation Award. These auditions are for placement only and are not competitive. Percussion and Visual Performers may have slightly different audition expectations due to the nature of these sections.
Our audition day for the 2009 season is Saturday, April 4, 2:00pm until 5:00pm. To schedule your audition, please call Claire Brock, Program and Operations Director for the Department of Music at 614-823-1504 or email her at cbrock@otterbein.edu.
Where do I get audition information?
What do I have to do or play?
The audition information packet for 2009 will be ready in the fourth week of February and made available electronically and via postal mail to all interested students.
Special Notes:
- Students who have already auditioned for a talent award as a woodwind or brass music major do not need to re-audition for the Athletic Bands award unless they intend to participate as a visual or percussion performer.
- Percussion (drumline) and visual performer (color guard and twirler) auditions are required except in serious extenuating circumstances.
- Athletic Bands Participation Award Auditions are held on the same day as auditions for traditional music Participation Awards for the convenience of students interested in both awards.
- Students who cannot attend the scheduled audition should contact Professor Michael Yonchak, Director of Athletic Bands to schedule a separate audition at myonchak@otterbein.edu.
- Students may also send a video audition (DVD/Quicktime/Windows media preferred, VHS accepted). Audio-only recorded auditions are not accepted.
