Ben Huntoon teaches trumpet and coaches brass ensembles at Otterbein College as well as serving on the jazz faculty. He has served as co-director of the O.P.C.I.C.A. All State Jazz Ensemble several times in recent history and was host of the International Association for Jazz Education Teacher Training Institute at Otterbein in June 2005.
As a jazz educator, Mr. Huntoon has conducted a number of jazz related clinic sessions at OMEA conferences and events around the state of Ohio. He has served the International Association for Jazz Education in a variety of capacities and is currently on the board of the Ohio Chapter of IAJE.
An active professional trumpet player, Mr. Huntoon performs in a wide variety of musical genres. He has performed for a number of theatrical companies including The Broadway Series, Players Theater of Columbus, and Gallery Players Theater. He is a featured jazz soloist and member of the jazz repertory group Jazz To Go and has performed with numerous jazz personalities in the ensembles of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, Vaughn Wiester's Famous Jazz Orchestra, The New Remnants Dance Orchestra and Guy Lombardo's Royal Canadians. Mr. Huntoon has performed as guest soloist with a number of high school jazz ensembles and colleges in the Midwest and has conducted clinics as well. He was a member of the Capital University Faculty Brass Quintet for five years and currently performs on a regular basis with his own quintet, The Gabriel Brass. He's an active freelance trumpet player performing in numerous multi-ethnic bands and ensembles.
Mr. Huntoon also is the Jazz Education Specialist at Stanton's Sheet Music in Columbus, Ohio. In that capacity he is responsible for all buying, selling and promotion of jazz music and jazz education materials. Mr. Huntoon actively represents Stanton's at state, national and international conventions of OMEA, IAJE and the International Trumpet Guild.
Mr. Huntoon has a B.M. from Capital University and a M.A. in Music Education from The Ohio State University. He is a member of the International Association for Jazz Education, the International Trumpet Guild and American Federation of Musicians, Local #103.
