James Miglia graduated from the University of North Texas with degrees in jazz and classical saxophone performance. His time there included several recordings with instrumental and vocal jazz ensembles, including a year in the acclaimed One O'Clock Jazz Band.
Soon after completing his first graduate degree, he became a member of the Black Swamp Saxophone Quartet, one of the few enduring professional saxophone quartets in the United States. He has held teaching positions in saxophone and jazz studies at the University of Toledo, Bowling Green State University, Ohio Northern University, and the Toledo School for the Arts, and is currently on the faculties of Otterbein College and Capital University.
James performs regularly in the Famous Jazz Orchestra, Columbus Jazz Orchestra and teaches classes for the Jazz Arts Group's Jazz Academy. Outside of his teaching assignments, he has directed jazz bands for the Ohio Music Educators Association, Ohio Private College Instrumental Conductors Association, and Cranbrook Academy in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
Mr. Miglia is currently serving a two-year appointment as the Secretary of the Ohio Chapter of the International Association for Jazz Education and is completing his DMA at the University of Illinois.
