This 2 credit hour nursing elective course is an option for senior level nursing students. Course work is completed online during the beginning of summer quarter, and a 10 day mission trip is taken in late August.

The team of approximately 8 students and nursing faculty travel to Anchorage Alaska, where they visit the Native American Cultural Center, tour the Native American hospital, and visit the Anchorage City Park to look for moose.

They then travel to Glenallen and Valdez, Alaska to participate in the delivery of culturally sensitive health care to persons served by the Crossroads Medical Clinic in Glenallen and the Public Health Department in Valdez.

Students work directly with registered nurses in these areas to provide health care and home visits for the native Alaskans. This service learning elective helps students learn about our Native American communities while helping provide necessary health care.
