The name Sigma Theta Tau is derived from the initials of the Greek words Storga, Tharos, and Tima, which means love, courage, and honor.

Kappa Lambda Chapter has inducted over 350 members since its beginning in 1988. Senior undergraduate nursing students and graduate nursing students, who have completed over a quarter their program with a GPA of 3.0, are eligible for membership pending final approval by chapter members at the annual voting meeting. New members are inducted in the fall of the year.
