On March 9 and 10, 2012, Otterbein University hosted Opportunity Nation: Women and the New American Dream Summit. Over 200 collegiate and community partners participated at the summit in regional dialogues about the role of higher education in ensuring future opportunities for women. At the summit, we created an open collaborative space in which participants shared, reimagined, and built innovative new pathways for women’s social, political, and economic mobility. At the culminating Town Hall, we envisioned a strategic regional action plan for higher education and our partners to prepare women to succeed in the 21st century.

Participants joined in unique conversations about:

  • AWARENESS: Raise awareness about the institutional and structural obstacles facing women.
  • STRATEGIES: Develop new strategies in higher education that support the flourishing of women and girls.
  • COMMUNITY: Cultivate meaningful and sustainable community partnerships that help create more "communities of opportunity."
  • LEADERSHIP: Train a new generation to become social change agents in their own communities.
  • PHILANTHROPY: Unleash resources to transform the everyday experiences of women and girls.
