Sponsorship/Donor Packages

Dear Prospective Sponsor / Donor

Otterbein University’s Special Event Planning and Sport Marketing classes are preparing to host their Fifth Annual 5k for K-9 Cancer Run/Walk on Saturday, April 21, 2018. The purpose of this event is to educate and raise awareness for canine cancer and raise funds for The MedVet Charitable Foundation. The Foundation is a 501(C)3 organization that is focused on supporting community outreach, continuing veterinary education, funding clinical research, and supporting the medical care of working dogs. Over the past four years, we have managed to raise over $135,000. Last year we raised almost $40,000; all of which was earmarked for the clinical investigation of the diagnosis and treatment of canine cancer. This year’s funds will be earmarked for curing canine cancer via Stereotactic Radiation Therapy treatments and patient support.

The idea for the event was formulated after Hilary Seif, a current Otterbein employee and dog owner, lost her Golden Retriever, Newman, to cancer in the summer of 2013. Canine Cancer affects one out of every three dogs. Of those, over half of them will die. Cancer is the leading cause of death in dogs over the age of 10. The warning signs of cancer in dogs are very similar to that in people. A lump or a bump, a wound that doesn’t heal, any kind of swelling, enlarged lymph nodes, a lameness or swelling in the bone, abnormal bleeding. Those are all classic signs. But sometimes there are little or no signs, at least early on. In order to elevate the public’s level of awareness on canine cancer, educational materials will be distributed, informational presentations will be given, vendors will be on site, and entertainment will be provided for attendee, all this in addition to the 5k for K-9 Cancer run/walk. With the help of Otterbein University’s Sport Management students, volunteers, 5k participants, and you, we can all make this year’s event bigger and better and again, bring dog lovers together and raise funds and awareness for a worthy cause.

The 5k for K-9 Cancer Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 9:00am-12:00pm, at McNamara Park in Galena, OH. With this being our fifth year for the race, it is still critical to establish a foundation of sponsors, donors, and participants that will return to the race year after year. Working in conjunction with area businesses and the Westerville community, we are confident that we can make this a spectacular event again.
