Major: Music and Business
Jon is taking advantage of the opportunities given to him at Otterbein. As a Cardinal Corps Leader (a group of Otterbein students who plan and run weekly community service programs on and off campus), Jon is creating his own service program, Otterbein Music Foundation, set to launch during the 2009-10 school year. "I've noticed levies aren't getting passed and schools are dropping music programs, " he said. "I'm creating a community advocacy group to raise awareness. " With the help of the Center for Community Engagement and faculty, Jon is hoping his service program will allow children to participate in musical instrument petting zoos and continue long after his Otterbein days are done.
Why Otterbein: Jon met an Otterbein music professor in sixth grade at an international music camp and, five years later, looked him up when considering colleges. He also found that Otterbein offered him the exact degree he wanted, and he was able to tailor that degree to fit his career goals. While majoring in the double bass, Jon is also taking business and audio recording classes.
What sets Otterbein apart: "There is a sense of community on the campus," he said. And Jon is certainly taking advantage of the numerous opportunities to get involved in the community and in the nation that Otterbein offers. He also says the broad range of classes available and enthusiastic professors make learning a fun experience.
