Neighbors

Our neighborhood is our home.

Otterbein University is committed to being a good neighbor and establishing positive relations with all of its neighbors, including both students living off campus and Westerville residents. We keep the lines of communication open; educate students on being good neighbors and tenants; and keep neighbors informed about campus events and meetings.

Former Kilgore Property Update 3/8/13

Thanks again to those of you who met with us on February 19, 2013 for an overview of the outlined work plan for the soil and water investigation of the former Kilgore property as approved by Ohio EPA, located on the eastern 40 acres of Otterbein University’s 600 N. Spring Road property.

Our goal is to keep communications open throughout the duration of the project, which is anticipated to occur periodically over the next several years. The next phase of investigatory work will begin on Monday, March 11 as the site team from our environmental consultant, Tetra Tech, Inc., sets up its work space. The team will start drilling and sampling on Tuesday, March 12. It is anticipated this phase will take approximately two weeks.

Please know that drilling equipment may temporarily generate some noise during intermittent use on the property. For instance, drilling might be performed near your home for several days to install soil sampling tubes and monitoring wells in the ground but then work will move on to another location. Work hours have been established from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The site will remain secure and trespassing signs around the property have been secured and fencing has been mended.

Presentation slides from the February 19 meeting may be found HERE. A collection of information about the site and related activities are publicly available for viewing in the Courtright Memorial Library at Otterbein University and at Ohio EPA’s Central District Office, Lazarus Government Center, 50 West Town Street, Suite 700, in Columbus. To set up a file review with Ohio EPA, please first call (614) 728-3778.

We appreciate your ongoing interest in this project. If you have any questions during this time, please route them to Jennifer Pearce at cell 614-562-7449 or email at jpearce@otterbein.edu. Should you wish to receive future correspondence from Otterbein University via email, please let us know by calling 614-823-1600.

Good Neighbor Program

The Good Neighbor Program is a pilot program to educate students living in off-campus housing about how to be good neighbors and tenants. Previous activities include programs for students provided by the Westerville police department about police protocol and cookouts with neighbors surrounding the college. Suggestions for future meetings and gatherings are welcomed. Please email Julie Saker with your suggestions.
