  • Makaibari Diary: A Reciprocal Tourist’s Gaze
  • Artist: Gretchen Stevens Cochran
  • A sabbatical exhibition exploring the reciprocal nature of a “tourist’s gaze” exchanged with the women who pluck tea in the Makaibari Tea Gardens in Darjeeling, India.

Oct. 15-Dec. 7, 2012

  • Reception: Thursday, Oct. 18, 4-6 p.m.
  • Lifting Off the Grid
  • Artist: Donald Austin
  • A sabbatical exhibition presenting a simple, inexpensive dwelling designed
to be visually unique, new age and independent of the power grid.

Jan. 3-March 15, 2013

  • The Fluxfax Portfolio
  • Thirty-five artists’ images created in honor of George Maciunis, the founder of the Fluxus art movement, including works by Yoko Ono and Nam June Paik.

  • Stewart Goldman’s etchings and essays of the memories of Dr. Anna Ornstein’s
experiences with her mother in the concentration camp at Auschwitz.

Jan. 3-May 19, 2013

  • Altering Life by Holding it Still: Photographs by Dorothea Lange and Marion Post Wolcott
  • Images from the 1930’s and 1940’s by two of America’s most important
documentary photographers. The title in a reference to Lange’s statement: “Photography takes an instant out of time, altering life by holding it
still.”

Historic Costume Collection

  • The rotating Historic Costume Collection exhibit on the in Fisher Gallery on the second floor of Roush Hall features garments donated by alumni and friends representing different eras from history. Currently on display through mid-December are men’s and women’s garments from the 1920s. “The Roaring Twenties” will explore the fashion of the years from the beginning of Prohibition to the Great Depression, including outerwear, undergarments, accessories and more—many worn by Otterbein students during that time.

The Presidents’ Gallery

  • Permanent display of Otterbein College’s presidents starting with first President Griffith in 1847 and ends with 19th President DeVore in a contemporary design that retains the traditional arched windows and doorways of Towers Hall, which was built in 1872. Each president has a 6-feet tall window-shaped plaque featuring his photograph and biography. The 19 plaques lead down a curved hallway and are flanked with two restored 12-feet tall stained glass windows from Towers Hall.
