Otterbein Students Head Back To Class

August 24, 2015
Otterbein University

It’s the first week of the school year for students at Otterbein University, including approximately 560 new students, representing 31 states. Twenty-seven of Otterbein’s new students hail from Westerville City Schools.

The most popular majors for this class are nursing, business, health and sport sciences, and biology. Students in these majors will be uniquely prepared for their careers as Otterbein’s curriculum blends liberal arts and humanities with professional studies to educate the whole person.

This year’s students are the first to enroll in the new systems engineering major.

Otterbein’s systems engineering major combines mechanical, industrial and electrical engineering principles with Otterbein’s nationally-recognized Integrative Studies (general education) program. The program offers a broader-based training than more traditional engineering degrees. Otterbein’s program also stands out for its small class sizes, which means faculty are accessible and students receive high levels of individual attention.

Last week, new students kicked off their college experience with a week of activities on campus and in the Westerville community, including a day of community service, picnic, concert and movie night.

This week, all students are invited to the First Friday Festival from 3:30-6 p.m. on Aug. 28 inside and outside the Campus Center, 100 W. Home St. This annual tradition closes the first week of classes with activities showcasing Westerville businesses, campus organizations and the variety of ways students can get involved on and off campus.
