Otterbein University has started the new school year with new leadership at the campus library. Tiffany Lipstreu took the helm as the new director of Courtright Memorial Library on June 1 and spent her summer training with retiring director, Lois Szudy.  Szudy has served Otterbein’s library since 1990.

Lipstreu comes to Otterbein from Franklin University’s Nationwide Library, where she held various positions since 2002, including electronic resources librarian, assistant director of library services and director of the library. She earned a bachelor’s degree in art history from The Ohio State University in 1995 and a master’s degree in library information and science from Kent State University in 2003.

Lipstreu steered numerous initiatives while at Franklin University, including the delivery of library services to new divisions. She also developed and led a team of professionals, paraprofessionals and student employees.

“The range of her experiences will serve us well as we continue to think collaboratively and collectively of ways to reposition the library in the life of our campus,” said Paul Eisenstein, dean of the school of arts and sciences at Otterbein University.

“When our students let us know what they need and how they will use their library space – your job is to listen and take action.  To that end, the library will be working to develop a strategic plan in the short term – for long term goal setting and achievement,” Lipstreu said.

Her first task is getting to know the library’s patrons and what they need and want from the library. She already has received more than 150 ideas from new students asking for such things as charging stations, a rooftop garden and production/collaboration spaces, like gaming rooms, listening stations and art and recording studio space. She is currently exploring opportunities to implement library upgrades over time.
