Westerville Symphony at Otterbein University presents "Gavin George - Live on Your Screen!

September 11, 2015
Westerville Symphony

The Westerville Symphony at Otterbein University is proud to announce the first performance of their 2015-2016 Ron Lykins Masterworks Series with the Masterworks I concert Gavin George-Live on Your Screen! at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11. in the Fritsche Theatre at Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St.

Audience members will experience a more relaxed environment than other classical music concerts as they are encouraged to have their phones out (on silent of course) and a live Twitter feed will appear above the orchestra, displaying tweets from audience members across the world who can watch the performance live streamed online. This concert, funded by the PNC Arts Alive initiative, is an innovative program that creates an inviting and interactive environment for patrons to experience symphonic music while providing easy access to the concert material through technology.

The featured artist, Gavin George, is a 12-year-old piano prodigy from Newark, Ohio, who began formal training at the age of 3. George made his symphonic debut with the Newark-Granville Symphony at age 7, playing the first movement of the Haydn Concerto in D Major. Since then he has performed with a number of orchestras in the United States and in recital series both here and abroad.

George’s performance of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 1 will be streamed live on the internet and the Symphony invites all people in and out of the concert hall to participate in our live Twitter listening guide. The live stream initiative allows those who are not able to attend, specifically who are far-flung members of George’s fan base in Italy or Luxembourg, to hear and see the concert.

Concert-goers who choose to participate in the live Twitter dialogue will receive choice seating in the ‘tweet zone’ in addition to receiving a bag filled with technology specific items, including a sticky phone cleaner from Pristine Screens and many other items.
