Otterbein organizations earn national recognition

Otterbein University’s chapters of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and Mortar Board honor society both won national awards over the summer.

Otterbein’s 21-member chapter of the national fraternity Phi Delta Theta was nationally recognized for their outstanding work this past year. The chapter has been awarded the National Scholarship Award, Hayward S. Biggers Ritual Trophy and the General Headquarters Trophy.

Phi Delta Theta was awarded the National Scholarship Award for achieving a high average GPA.

“Our members are motivated academically through an understanding and commitment to our cardinal principles of sound learning, friendship and moral rectitude, which we strive to live by daily in and outside of the classroom,” said Wes Ayers president of Otterbein’s chapter of Phi Delta Theta.

The Biggers Ritual Trophy was awarded to Phi Delta Theta for demonstrating quality ritual performance in accordance with the laws of the fraternity. The General Headquarters Trophy was awarded to the chapter for scoring 100/100 for reporting all items to national headquarters, such as their monthly chapter reports, risk management affidavits and social calendar.

Otterbein’s chapter of the Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society received the Silver Torch Award in August. The award was presented to chapter delegates at the Society’s national conference in Phoenix.

The Silver Torch Award is given to chapters that perform all national criteria and deadlines while promoting scholarship, leadership and meaningful service to their institutions. community.

Mortar Board is the premier national honor society recognizing college seniors for outstanding achievement in scholarship, leadership and service. Since its founding in 1918, more than a quarter of a million members have been initiated at 231 chartered chapters across the nation. Mortar Board provides its members with opportunities for continued leadership development, promotes service to colleges and universities and encourages lifelong contributions to the global community.
