First-year veterinary students from The Ohio State University have been visiting Otterbein University’s Austin E. Knowlton Center for Equine Science for hands-on experience with horses, learning basic handling techniques and non-invasive diagnostic procedures.

Led by Professor Emeritus Maria Calderone, DVM, Otterbein is hosting 10 sessions at the Knowlton Center. Veterinarians from central Ohio and Otterbein undergraduate students serve as facilitators for the program.

The next two sessions are scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 14. Alison Martin, a 2011 graduate of Westerville North High School and a first-year veterinarian student at Ohio State, will attend Wednesday’s second section, which runs from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Danielle O’Callaghan, a 2014 Otterbein graduate, who majored in Equine Preveterinary Medicine, will also attend the 2:30 p.m. session.

The Knowlton Center, 600 N. Spring Road, in Westerville sits just behind Westerville North High School.
