Otterbein University

Otterbein University, in partnership with Nationwide, will once again host a software development boot camp, starting Nov. 3. DevOps professionals will have an opportunity to understand and experience the Agile mindset, culture and lean principles through five three-hour sessions, with an optional hands-on session devoted to Ruby and Cucumber using the Gherkin syntax.

The course will address the growing need for collaborative, highly-skilled technology professionals in the central Ohio area who are knowledgeable in test automation.

Participants will learn to leverage Acceptance Test Driven Development (ATDD) and Agile/Lean principles preparing them to take on a variety of roles on an Agile team.  Self-managing teams focused on standard work, a culture of learning and continuous improvement are at the core of software development at Nationwide and in many other IT organizations in central Ohio. A simulated collaborative environment will enable participants the opportunity for hands-on learning, engaging discussion and lots of fun.

This course is facilitated by expert practitioners from Nationwide who live these practices every day in support of digital user experience, customer analytics, virtual cloud environment and mobile applications. In addition, participants will learn from industry experts about Gherkin syntax utilizing Ruby and Cucumber, allowing development teams to describe how

software should behave in plain text. The text is written in a business-readable, domain-specific language and serves as documentation, automated tests definition and development aid for common understanding by the whole team.

This non-credit course meets on Tuesdays from 6-9 p.m. for five weeks beginning Nov. 3, with an optional Ruby session from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12.  at Otterbein University. Classes will be held at Otterbein University in room 336 of Roush Hall, 1 S. Grove St., Westerville. The cost is $1,499 for the five Tuesday-night sessions and an additional $500 for the optional Dec. 12 Ruby/Cucumber session. Fees are payable before the first class.
