Youth Philharmonic of Central Ohio to Perform at Otterbein

The Youth Philharmonic of Central Ohio will present its annual spring concert at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 7, in the Fritsche Theatre at Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St., Westerville. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Youth Philharmonic of Central Ohio is an independent youth orchestra whose musicians travel from throughout the central Ohio region for rehearsals and concerts. Members range from eighth through 12th grade. YPCO is conducted by Steven Wedell and is in residence at Otterbein University.

The spring concert will feature selections from a wide range of repertoire for the symphony

orchestra. Music by Meyerbeer, Debussy and Handel will highlight the abilities of various sections of the orchestra. The Overture to L’Italia en Algiers will feature the more virtuosic side of symphonic music, and the ever-popular music from “Lord of the Dance” will round out the concert. The program will also honor those musicians who will be graduating high school seniors in the spring.

Otterbein University Wind Ensemble to Perform

The Otterbein University Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Michael Yonchak, will present its first program of spring semester at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, in the Fritsche Theatre at Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St., Westerville. The concert is free and open to the public.

This program, called “Music for Hallowed Halls,” will feature a wide collection of music with connections to celebrated performance spaces. Classic music from J.S. Bach and Richard Wagner through more contemporary works by Thomas Duffy, Clifton Williams, and Andrew Boysen Jr. will be performed.
