Founder of Hot Chicken Takeover Headlines Otterbein University Leadership Week

March 11, 2016
Otterbein University

Otterbein University will host Leadership Week at the Library from March 21-25.  The event is sponsored by Leadership Studies and University Programs, in partnership with the Courtright Memorial Library. All events are free and open to the public.

Community social entrepreneur Joe DeLoss, founder of Hot Chicken Takeover, will be the featured speaker as he shares how he is leading the effort in central Ohio to provide community solutions by employing those who are affected by poverty, homelessness and incarceration.  DeLoss is recognized as a significant contributor to the city’s social enterprise scene and his new restaurant concept is gaining popularity.  DeLoss will speak at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, in room 112 of Towers  Hall, 1 S. Grove St., Westerville.

From the beginnings of a take-out window in Olde Towne East, the startup progressed to a food truck, and now occupies space in the North Market. DeLoss stresses the importance of serving excellent food and service, something that employees can take pride in. He hopes the enterprise will expand into a regional chain in the next five years.

Leadership Week kicks off with a reception from 4-5:30 p.m. on Monday, March 21, at the library, on the northwest corner of Main and Grove streets.  Information about Otterbein’s leadership initiatives will be available, including the certificate and bachelor’s degree in leadership for adult students; leadership studies minor; Van Sant Leadership Certificate; and the Leadership and Citizenship portion of the Five Cardinal Experiences.

Also this week at the library, leadership materials will be on display on the first and second floors of the library and the Leadership Week LibGuide will be available at otterbein.libguides.com/events/leadershipweek, featuring leadership information and resources.
