Corporate and Foundation Speakers to Headline Otterbein University's Commencement Ceremonies

Westerville, OH—Otterbein University has selected Stephen D. Steinour, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Huntington Bancshares Incorporated, to address the class of 2015 at the University’s undergraduate commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 3, in the Rike Center on the Otterbein campus in Westerville. Otterbein will present Steinour with an honorary doctor of business administration degree.

Steinour leads Huntington Bancshares Incorporated, a $66 billion regional bank holding company headquartered in Columbus. Prior to joining Huntington, Steinour was managing partner of CrossHarbor Capital. He has also served as president and chief executive officer of Citizens Financial Group (CFG), responsible for overseeing the commercial bank holding company’s business lines and operations; division executive for Fleet Financial Group; and executive vice president at Bank of New England.

Following his graduation from Gettysburg College in 1980 with a degree in economics, Steinour began his career as an analyst for the U.S. Treasury Department and subsequently worked for the FDIC. He is a graduate of The Executive Program at Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

Steinour is a member of the board of directors of L Brands, Inc.; Exelon Corporation; and Financial Services Roundtable. He is a trustee of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center; the Columbus Downtown Development Corporation; and Eisenhower Fellowships. He is a member of The Columbus Partnership. He is a past chairman of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and a former trustee of the National Constitution Center.

Tony R. Wells, chief executive officer of the Tony R. Wells Foundation, has been tapped to speak at the graduate commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 2, in the Rike Center on the Otterbein campus in Westerville. Otterbein will present Wells with an honorary doctor of public service degree.

Wells is a philanthropist who provides technology and social entrepreneurship grants to non-profit organizations through his foundation. He is a social innovator, who assists organizations in becoming sustainable without compromising their status as non-profits. Wells developed and funded the Social Innovation Initiative at The Ohio State University to develop and commercialize social benefitting technologies for individuals with disabilities. He is a Kellogg Scholar in Nonprofit Management at Northwestern University. Many Otterbein students have interned with the Wells Foundation, gaining valuable experience in their fields of study.

In addition to his foundation, Wells is also the founder of numerous information technology companies, the founding board member for local charities A Kid Again and GroundWork Group, and currently serves on the honorary board for Goodwill Columbus. He has received numerous awards throughout his career, including Entrepreneur of the Year from EY; the Excellence in Community Partnership Building Award and the Dean’s Meritorious Service to Students Award from The Ohio State University; Board Leadership Fellow Award from National Association of Corporate Directors; and the Harry C. Moores’ Philanthropic Vision Award. He was one of 88 business leaders for the book, Leadership within Reach.

Wells is an alumnus of the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina, the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, and the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
