Marysville Exempted Village Schools invites all residents to the ribbon cutting celebration of the district’s new Early College High School (ECHS). Otterbein University staff and faculty will also be on hand to share the details of their partnership with the school district, including the new adult education program that will be offered next school year.

“This is a bold approach to education and a first of its kind in the entire state of Ohio,” said Superintendent Diane Mankins. “When visitors come to our school, what they will see is modern, open classrooms, computer and science labs – it’s education on the cutting edge.”

The district received $12.5 million in start-up funds from the state of Ohio as part of the Governor’s Straight A Fund. This school of choice also includes a partnership with Otterbein, Columbus State Community College, Honda, Ohio Hi-Point Joint Vocational School and the Union County Chamber of Commerce. When students graduate from the ECHS they will have completed both a high school diploma and up to the first two years of college.

“When the Straight A Grants were first proposed, public schools were asked to create programs for kids that meet the expectations of the today’s world and job market,” said Mankins. “We are thrilled to show our community and state leaders exactly how we are accomplishing it with the new Early College High School. We were able to repurpose an old, vacant school building into a modern facility with a modern approach to education.”

Community members are invited to see this cutting edge new choice for Marysville students in action on March 18. Tours of the facility and student activities are planned for after the ceremony at 6:45 p.m. and students, staff, business partners and parents will be available for interviews.

In addition, students will be demonstrating their skills on our advanced manufacturing equipment, including robots and a 3D printer, which provides manufacturing training for highly skilled jobs for our partners and in the region.
