Otterbein University to Participate in Awareness Event, One Billion Rising

Westerville, OH—Otterbein University will participate in One Billion Rising, a global event to raise awareness about violence toward women, with four programs on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 13 and 14. All events are open to the public.

In alliance with One Billion Rising, Otterbein University will add voices to the movement to end violence against women and girls as well, as gender violence in all of its forms, from New Delhi to Steubenville to Westerville. Otterbein will offer four programs to educate the community, open conversation about sexual consent and rape culture, and provide opportunities for individuals to move in protest and solidarity.

The events are as follows:
A Conversation on Sexual Consent
7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13
Room 112 of Towers Hall, 1 S. Grove St.

A Conversation on Rape Culture
3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14
Room 112 of Towers Hall, 1 S. Grove St.

Otterbein Rising: Dance Mob
4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14
In front of the Campus Center, 100 W. Home St.
People are invited will join in solidarity, purpose and energy to affirm the value of all lives impacted by sexual violence through dance. Rhythm is optional.

Free Your Body!: an open movement class
5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14
Dance Studio at the Battelle Fine Arts Center, 170 W. Park St.
Open to all ages and skill levels, this open movement class is designed to help participants celebrate the freedom and beauty of the body as well as the power of community. Women and the men who love them are invited to come out and dance! A suggested donation of $5 will support the Women’s Fund of Central Ohio.
