Westerville, OH—Otterbein University announces the appointment of Dr. Miguel Martinez-Saenz as provost and vice president for academic affairs. He will assume the post on June 1.
Martinez-Saenz comes to Otterbein from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, where he served as dean of University College and associate provost for student success. In this position, he provided leadership, vision, supervision and evaluation to an array of programs and services aimed at improving student access, success and retention.
“Dr. Martinez-Saenz brings the experience, enthusiasm and inspiration necessary to address the challenges and opportunities that universities currently face,” said President Kathy Krendl. “I believe his collaborative approach to higher education will complement Otterbein’s focus on student success.”
“I am honored and humbled to have been selected by President Krendl to help lead Otterbein. My interactions with the various stakeholders on campus assured me that Otterbein is taking the necessary steps to think deliberately and creatively about the ways it can adapt to a changing landscape while remaining faithful to its mission and its history. Creating conditions for collaboration—conditions that will allow all members of campus to have a voice and a stake in discussions—is critical to Otterbein’s future,” said Martinez-Saenz. “Additionally, my family and I are looking forward to becoming conscientious and contributing members of Westerville and the surrounding communities.”
Martinez-Saenz previously held positions as associate provost, assistant provost for the First-Year Experience, interim assistant provost for Academic Services, director of the First-Year Seminars and associate professor of philosophy at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio.
He earned his associate’s degree from Tallahassee Community College; bachelor’s degree in religion from Florida State University; and master’s and doctorate degrees in philosophy from the University of South Florida.
