Westerville, OH—Otterbein University students are raising money for Nationwide Children’s Hospital with OtterTHON, a seven-hour dance marathon, beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 28, in the Clements Recreation Center, 180 Center St.
Now in its second year, the organizers expect 350-400 dancers from Otterbein and the local community. Along with dancing, the event includes family-friendly activities like balloon animals, face painting, a photo booth and more. The goal for the event is $5,000, and there will be prizes for participants who raise the most money. All donations go to Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
“We are organizing this event to not only raise money for Nationwide Children’s Hospital, but to help teach the students the value of philanthropy and service, along with giving the community and opportunity to unite and change forever the lives of kids across the nation whom are fighting for their lives,” said Ellie Proctor, president of OtterTHON.
“We will have five miracle families from Children’s Miracle Network that will attend OtterTHON and share their stories. Our motto is FTK, For The Kids, because we dance for those who cannot,” she added.
Providing music and dance instruction are: two DJs, a live band, and instructors teaching broadway/jazz dance, zumba, line dancing, jazz/hip hop, and a performance of Beyonce’s Single Ladies dance. Dinner is provided by Chipotle, Jimmy John’s and Bon Appetit – Otterbein’s food service provider.
Anyone can register and the fee is $10 for individuals or $5 per person for teams of 10 or more. The event organizers are also accepting donations from those who wish to contribute, but not dance.
