Otterbein University Creates Full Tuition Scholarship for CCS Students

September 25, 2013

Westerville, OH— Otterbein University announces the Otterbein – I Know I Can Founder’s Scholarship beginning fall 2014. This full tuition scholarship will be available to one Columbus City Schools (CCS) graduating senior each year. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years. By 2018, Otterbein will have a cohort of four CCS Otterbein Founder’s Scholarship students enrolled at the institution.

“Otterbein has a long history of serving CCS students. They benefit from the supportive learning environment at Otterbein and achieve their goals. Our I Know I Can Scholars will receive a first-rate education with ready access to dedicated faculty from the day they step foot on campus,” said Otterbein President Kathy A. Krendl. “This scholarship demonstrates our support for CCS graduates. We are committed to helping them succeed.”

Jefferson Blackburn-Smith, vice president for enrollment management, noted, “Otterbein understands that college affordability is a very real concern. The Founder’s Scholarship, coupled with a new model of need-based aid for CCS students, is designed to make Otterbein not only the right fit for students, but an affordable choice as well. While the scholarship is certainly exciting, we work hard to make Otterbein an affordable option for many CCS graduates.”

“Our data shows that Otterbein’s small campus, with average classes of 15 students, is an excellent fit for Columbus students. The personal attention and easy access to caring faculty help students succeed,” Blackburn-Smith said.

Interested students should contact their I Know I Can school volunteer for details on applying for the full tuition scholarship. For more information, contact the Otterbein University Office of Admissions, 614-823-1500.

I Know I Can was founded in 1988 as a result of the foresight, dedication and generosity of community and civic leaders who believed that no child should be denied a college education simply because they could not afford it. Its mission is “to inspire, enable and support Columbus City Schools students in pursuing and completing a college education.” I Know I Can is the only college access program in Columbus, and one of the largest and most successful in the nation. Since its beginning, I Know I Can has made higher education a reality for tens of thousands of Columbus City Schools students who dreamed of a college education and worked hard to get it.
