Otterbein University Presents Upcoming Music Performances

Jay Miglia to Perform Faculty Saxophone Recital at Otterbein University

Otterbein University saxophone instructor Jay Miglia will present a faculty recital at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, in Riley Auditorium of the Battelle Fine Arts Center, 170 W. Park St. The performance is free and open to the public.

Wuest pianist Dean Marcellana will join Miglia to perform what 20th century composer Gunther Schuller termed “third-stream” music — music that is notated traditionally, but may include chord-based improvisation, as well. The program will include pieces by Bob Mintzer, Raymon Ricker, Bill Dobbins and Phil Woods.

Otterbein to Host Indian Music Performance in Collaboration with Dhvani

The Otterbein Department of Music will host a concert of Carnatic Music, southern India’s great musical tradition, presented by Dhvani, the Indian Performing Arts Society of Central Ohio, at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, in Riley Auditorium of the Battelle Fine Arts Center, 170 W. Park St. The concert will feature the vocal artistry of Professor Trivandrum Seethalakshmi accompanied by Vvs Murari and Poovalur Sriji.

Tickets for this event are $25 general admission and $10 for students and senior citizens and are available for purchase online at www.dhvaniohio.org. The event is free to students, staff and faculty of the Otterbein community.
