March 16, 2015

Westerville, OH—Otterbein University Theatre & Dance and the Department of Music presents the stage production of the popular Tony Award-winning musical, Into the Woods, at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 9; 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 12; and 8 p.m. on April 10-11 and 16-18 in the Fritsche Theatre at Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St. Tickets cost $25. Call 614-823-1109 or visit www.otterbein.edu/drama.

Into the Woods is a musical of fairy tale proportions. How far would you go to make your wish come true? Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (of beanstalk fame), and a baker and his wife find out when they take a journey into the woods. It’s a magical, bewildering place full of witches, wolves, giants and mysterious strangers, where familiar fairy tales get tangled up together. Wishes come true here, but at a price. Even storybook characters must face the music—of which there is plenty—in Sondheim and Lapine’s irreverent Tony Award-winner.

Otterbein’s production of Into the Woods is directed by Lenny Leibowitz, the newest member of the Otterbein University Theatre & Dance faculty. Leibowitz is the founding artistic director of New York’s Marvell Repertory Theatre (Drama Desk Award nominee for Leibowitz’s production of The Threepenny Opera). As the former artistic director of New Harmony Theatre and as a freelance director in New York, Boston, Seattle and Washington, D.C., Leibowitz has firmly established himself as a director who helps actors “unlock” their best performances in a supportive, encouraging, positive environment. As a professor in the acting programs at Boston University and University of Southern Indiana, Leibowitz developed his own teaching method that focuses on clear, compelling storytelling; active, imaginative choices; and integration of body, breath and thought.

Tickets for Into the Woods are $25 each and can be reserved by calling the Otterbein University box office at (614) 823-1109 or purchased online at www.otterbein.edu/drama. The box office is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour prior to performances. The box office is located in Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St.
