Otterbein and Columbus State Partnership Provides Direct Path from Associate's to Bachelor's Degree
December 21, 2012
Westerville, OH—Otterbein University and Columbus State Community College have added more opportunities for students at Columbus State who wish to transfer to Otterbein to obtain a bachelor’s degree. Otterbein now offers eight majors as part of its 2+2 offerings.
“Otterbein University welcomes Columbus State students as they look to complete their bachelor's degrees. As a small liberal arts university with just under 3,000 students, Otterbein is able to give students personal assistance as they continue their educational journeys,” said Dr. Susan Millsap, interim assistant dean for academic affairs at Otterbein.
Through the 2+2 program, students at Columbus State can complete an associate’s degree and have it count toward a bachelor’s degree at Otterbein. Students meet with an advisor from Otterbein as they progress through their associate’s degree to ensure they are following the curriculum. Advisors are also available for academic support and will be onsite at the downtown and Columbus State Delaware campus locations periodically or students may meet with them on Otterbein’s campus.
Students in the 2+2 program with associate’s degrees who transfer to Otterbein as a full-time student are eligible for a $3,000-$4,000 Bridge Scholar Award. Selection is based on cumulative GPA.
Associate’s degrees through the 2+2 program at Columbus State that count toward a bachelor’s degree at Otterbein are:
- Journalism and Media Communication
- Communication Studies
- Public Relations
- Early Childhood Education
- Middle Childhood Education
- Veterinarian Technology
- Art – Digital Photography concentration
Debra DeProspero, a middle childhood major with concentrations in math and science explains, “My advisor at the Delaware campus told me how easy it would be to transfer to Otterbein. Transferring was easy. I fell in love with Otterbein, and Columbus State was key in giving me the confidence and fresh start I needed to get here.”
The campus is conveniently located off I-71 and I-270, near the Polaris area. Classes are small; students receive personal attention and individual advising.
