Otterbein University Presents Upcoming Music Performances

Westerville, OH—The Otterbein University Department of Music offers a stellar lineup of performances in May, with genres to please a variety of musical tastes. Otterbein Students Perform in Honors Chamber Recital

The Otterbein University Department of Music will present a recital featuring performances by select chamber ensembles from the string and wind area at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, in Riley Auditorium at the Battelle Fine Arts Center, 170 W. Park St. The concert is free and open to the public.

Otterbein Department of Music to present Spring Sing

Otterbein University vocalists will perform Spring Sing, a variety show featuring jazz, musical theatre and popular vocal styles at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, in Riley Auditorium at the Battelle Fine Arts Center, 170 W. Park St. An outstanding line up of singers will be featured, including Opus One vocal jazz ensemble, 6 in the City female a cappella ensemble and the Ottermen, a men’s a cappella ensemble. Vocal soloists will perform musical theatre songs from Wicked, City of Angels and The Addams Family, as well as popular songs by Sara Bareilles, Eric Church and Second Hand Serenade. Admission is $5 for adults and free for students. They are available at the door.

Otterbein University String Orchestra to Perform Strum

The Otterbein String Orchestra will present its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, at Grace Lutheran Church, 100 E. Schrock Rd. In a program entitled Strum, the Otterbein University String Orchestra will perform works by Elliot Carter, Ottorino Respighi and Joachim Turina. Otterbein faculty guitarist Karl Wohlwend will be featured in Alex De Grassi and Jeremy Cohen’s genre bending 3 Themes for steel string guitar, string quartet and string orchestra. This performance is free and open to the public.

Otterbein Keyboard Series Presents Timothy Huffman and Suzanne Newcomb

Otterbein professors Timothy Huffman and Suzanne Newcomb will present a duo piano recital at 8 p.m. on Monday, May 6, in Riley Auditorium at the Battelle Fine Arts Center, 170 W. Park St. In addition to original two-piano works by American composers Samuel Barber and Homer Simmons, the program will feature transcriptions of works by Arnold Bax, Mozart and Schumann. This program is free and open to the public.

Otterbein Electro-Acoustic Workshop to Perform Original Student Compositions

Students in the Advanced Electro-Acoustic Music class will showcase their work at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, in Riley Auditorium of the Battelle Fine Arts Center, 170 W. Park St. Students will be presenting works for both fixed media and live, interactive electronics with motion graphics. New this year is interdepartmental collaboration with film and poetry. This program is free and open to the public.

Otterbein University Opera Students to Present an Evening of Scenes

Students from the Otterbein University Opera Program will present a collection of scenes at 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, in Riley Auditorium at the Battelle Fine Arts Center, 170 W. Park St. The performance is free and open to the public.

Otterbein University Choral Ensembles to Perform

The Otterbein University Department of Music will present a choral concert featuring Camerata, Otterbein Vocal Ensemble, Women’s Chorale, Otterbein Singers and Concert Choir at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 10, at the Fritsche Theatre in Cowan Hall, 30 S. Grove St. The program will feature a variety of choral works and will involve well over 150 Otterbein College students drawn from the Department of Music and across the campus. The program is free and open to the public.

Otterbein Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band to Perform Outdoor Tribute to John Cage

The Otterbein University Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will perform an outdoor “Musicircus” concert in tribute to composer John Cage at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, in the courtyard outside the Battelle Fine Arts Center, 170 West Park St. In the event of rain, the concert will take place inside the Battelle Fine Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public.

Otterbein Department of Music to Present Senior Bachelor of Music Showcase Recital

The Otterbein University Department of Music will present a recital showcasing graduating seniors from the department’s Bachelor of Music in Performance degree program at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, in Riley Auditorium at the Battelle Fine Arts Center, 170 W. Park St. This concert is free and open to the public.
