Here's what you'll do in the Journalism and Media Communication major:
  • Broadcast live on WOBN, 97.5 FM, Otterbein's own radio station.
  • Experience producing and reporting news, sports and other programs through Otterbein.tv, our own public television station.
  • Report and write news for the Tan and Cardinal student newspaper.
  • Write and update news, sports, arts and entertainment, editorials, opinion columns and blogs for Otterbein360.com.

Who is the audience? Why are we telling this story? What is the multimedia method that will make this story most compelling?

The answers to these questions might lead you to:

  • Write a campus news story for the Tan and Cardinal student newspaper or distribute it using social media;
  • Broadcast live on the air for Otterbein's radio station, WOBN, 97.5 FM;
  • Produce and report the news and sports on Otterbein.tv, our own public television station;
  • Cover Otterbein sports on Otterbein360.com, or on a live streaming webcast;
  • Mentor urban youth blogging about issues in their community.

Through an integrated multimedia curriculum, you will learn valuable research and reporting skills, develop strong writing and editing techniques, and practice advanced production methods for text, audio, video, and interactive storytelling in student media organizations, lab classes, and internships.

You will be guided by faculty who are actively engaged in the ever-changing multimedia industries, which leads students to internships, job placements, and other networking opportunities.

A full range of production classes also teach you to tell stories using audio, video, print, and the web.

Attend a taping of a Otterbein.tv production!

Requests can be directed to Dr. Jeff Demas. Otterbein.tv NEWS is produced from 3-4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays when classes are in session.
